8:00 AM  Half Marathon Start 8:15 AM  5K Start

Belle Isle, Detroit, Michigan

Some Inspiration from Our Heart Heroes

I made a choice that changed my life….though I had never enjoyed running, I began the Couch to 5k Program and set a goal to get in better shape.

First 5k

It’s not too late to make a change. Heart disease is a family problem, it is not gender biased, and it is not limited by age.

Know your family history, live a heart healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise and most importantly, have your doctor take a really close listen to your heart – it could save your life.

This journey has taught me the true importance of support, encouragement, hope, and a positive attitude. My experience has helped me realize I was given a chance to make a difference in other’s lives.

From The Blog

How can we register as a group or team?

On the second page of registration where you add your name and address, the top column will read category. From the drop down menu, please choose “Team or Club”. Then after estimated finish time it will ask “Select Team”. If someone else has already registered your team, choose it from the drop down menu. If no team has been previously created, choose create a new team. Then the other members of your team will just be able to choose it from the drop down menu when they go to register.

What are the age limits?

Participants be a minimum of 14 years old to participate in the half marathon and 8 years old for the 5K.

Is the Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5K for women only?

We created Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5K to be a race for women, in celebration of women. We welcome the favorite males in your life to volunteer so they can help make the event a success or they can signup to run but they have to wear a skirt (just kidding).

I cannot attend Packet Pick-Up. Can somebody else pick up my packet?

For safety, security, and insurance reasons we prefer you pick up your own packet. If you are having somebody else pick up your packet, please be sure they have a signed note, copy of your photo id, and your signed waiver which you can download from the race day information page on the website.

What is included in my registration?

- Super cute and soft 50/50 blend t-shirt (guaranteed if you have registered by 9/8/14)
- Personalized bib  (signup by 9/3)
Participant Virtual Goodie Bag by Virtual Race Bags
- Personalized Bib Number with embedded timing chip
- Finisher’s Medal with detachable charm
- “Chocolate Mile” by Sanders Fine Chocolates
- Special finisher’s gift from Marlee’s by Trapper’s for ALL finishers
- Refreshments after finishing
- Cheers from family, friends, volunteers, and spectators
- Post race photos

The first 1000 registered half marathon runner’s will also receive a custom designed 13.1 Hoo-Rag (“buff”) at packet pick up. What is a hoo-rag? Read all about it!

Can I walk in the 5K run?

You may walk, walk/run, or run in the 5K or in the Half Marathon as long as you can finish in the maximum of 4 hours to complete your event.

Can I run with a baby stroller/jogger or a dog?

We do not allow strollers or dogs in the half marathon. Jogging strollers are, however, permitted in the 5K but sadly not dogs, nor dogs in strollers. If you do choose to run with a stroller no matter how much of a speed demon you may be, you will need to start at the back of the pack.

Can I use headphones?

The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, Epic Races encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5k.

We believe your race experience and those around you will be greatly enhanced by leaving the headphones at home or in the car. Running headphone-free allows opportunities to develop camaraderie with your fellow runners and to enjoy everything the race has to offer. Plus, volunteers and spectators will be on course cheering you on and providing directions to help get you to the finish line. Runner safety has always been, and will continue to be, a top priority for our event. Please be mindful of the other participants and respect the race personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone.

Will there be awards for the winners?

Awards will be given for both the Half Marathon and 5k to the top 3 overall + first place master (40+) and grandmaster (50+). Overall winners are not eligible to win age group awards.

Awards will be given to the top five female finishers in each age division for both the Half Marathon and 5k.

Age divisions are: 13 and under (5k only), 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over.

As a reminder, your official time does not begin until you cross the start line. The timing system provides each participant with an accurate time from the start to finish lines.
