Some Inspiration from Our Heart Heroes

I made a choice that changed my life….though I had never enjoyed running, I began the Couch to 5k Program and set a goal to get in better shape.

First 5k

It’s not too late to make a change. Heart disease is a family problem, it is not gender biased, and it is not limited by age.

Know your family history, live a heart healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise and most importantly, have your doctor take a really close listen to your heart – it could save your life.

This journey has taught me the true importance of support, encouragement, hope, and a positive attitude. My experience has helped me realize I was given a chance to make a difference in other’s lives.

FAQ

How can we register as a group or team?

Do you belong to a club or team or a member of a corporate wellness program or just a bunch of coworkers or friends who just like to get together and run? If so sign up here and create a Half Marathon, 5K, or Mixed team under participant details in registration. Once somebody from your group has created the team you will be able to choose it from the drop down menu in the same section under participant classes.  Then let the friendly competition begin for who has the fastest Women’s Team in Michigan!
Scoring for 5K Team and Half Marathon Team=averaging the times of the entire team.
Scoring for Mixed teams are scored by averaging an equal amount of the lowest Half Marathon and 5K times.

What are the age limits?

Participants be a minimum of 14 years old to participate in the half marathon and 8 years old for the 5K.

Is the Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5K for women only?

We created Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5K to be a race for women, in celebration of women. We welcome the favorite males in your life to volunteer so they can help make the event a success or they can signup to run but they have to wear a skirt (just kidding).

I cannot attend Packet Pick-Up. Can somebody else pick up my packet?

For safety, security, and insurance reasons we prefer you pick up your own packet. Please remember to bring photo ID to packet pick- up. You may pick up packets for friends or family but you must have signed waiver for them and a copy of their driver’s license.  Click here for the waiver.

What is included in my registration?

Super cute and soft 50/50 blend t-shirt (guaranteed if you have registered by 9/8/14)
Personalized bib  (signup by 8/28/14)
Embedded timing chip on the bag of each bib
Participant Virtual Goodie Bag by Virtual Race Bags
Finisher’s Medal
Sander’s Chocolate at Mile 2.5 in the 5K and 12.5 for the 13.1 (if you miss it on the course, grab it at the finish- 1 per participant please)
Food tent for finishers
Photos taken on the course

AND the first 1000 registered half marathon runners will also receive a custom designed 13.1 Hoo-Rag at packet pick up.
What is a Hoo-Rag? Read all about it

Can I walk in the 5K run?

You may walk, walk/run, or run in the 5K or in the Half Marathon as long as you can finish in the maximum of 4 hours to complete your event.

Can I run with a baby stroller/jogger or a dog?

We do not allow strollers or dogs in the half marathon. Jogging strollers are, however, permitted in the 5K but sadly not dogs, nor dogs in strollers. If you do choose to run with a stroller no matter how much of a speed demon you may be, you will need to start at the back of the pack.

Can I use headphones?

The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, Epic Races encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5k.

We believe your race experience and those around you will be greatly enhanced by leaving the headphones at home or in the car. Running headphone-free allows opportunities to develop camaraderie with your fellow runners and to enjoy everything the race has to offer. Plus, volunteers and spectators will be on course cheering you on and providing directions to help get you to the finish line. Runner safety has always been, and will continue to be, a top priority for our event. Please be mindful of the other participants and respect the race personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone.

Will there be awards for the winners?

Awards will be given for both the Half Marathon and 5k to the top 3 overall + first place master (40+) and grandmaster (50+). Overall winners are not eligible to win age group awards.

Awards will be given to the top five female finishers in each age division for both the Half Marathon and 5k.
